Multisensory Music Education Programme (MMEP)

With the support of Music Generation I’m developing the Multisensory Music Education Programme, which uses a whole-body approach to music education based not only on sound, but also on visual rhythm and vibration. I’m currently working with 2 classes of deaf students in Sacred Heart National School in New Bawn County Wexford teaching the students the rudiment of music using multisensory techniques.

Due to a severe shortage of space in the school, I built a multisensory cart that I can wheel around to each classroom. The cart holds a high spec vibrotactile speaker system, keyboard, electric guitar, electric bass guitar and an electronic drum kit.

This work is being developed in conjunction with my multisensory research around vibrotactile musical experience with the University of Liverpool’s Acoustic Research Unit.
